NV BĂ©rĂȘche Et Fils Brut RĂ©serve, Champagne, France
ABOUT THE WINE
The Brut RĂ©serve is BĂ©rĂȘcheâs flagship cuvĂ©e and a masterclass in blending precision with site expression. It is composed of approximately one-third each Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, sourced from estate-owned vineyards in Ludes (Montagne de Reims), Ormes (Petite Montagne), and Mareuil-le-Port (VallĂ©e de la Marne). A significant portion of the blend comes from a perpetual reserve started in 1985, lending nuance and continuity to the wine.
Fermentation takes place in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, and the wine undergoes Ă©levage in barrel for 10 months before bottling. Malolactic fermentation is typically blocked to preserve freshness and tension. Disgorged after 2â3 years on the lees, the wine is finished with a low dosage (~6 g/L), highlighting its purity and structure. Farming is organic with biodynamic principles, and all vineyards are worked by hand.
A superbly versatile Champagne, Brut Réserve pairs beautifully with oysters, roast chicken, aged cheeses, or simply as an apéritif to open a meal with finesse.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Founded in 1847 and now led by RaphaĂ«l and Vincent BĂ©rĂȘche, this family-run domaine has become one of Champagneâs most respected grower-producers. From their base in Ludes, the brothers have elevated the estate by emphasizing single-vineyard bottlings, rigorous farming, and traditional methods such as aging under cork instead of crown cap for secondary fermentationâadding complexity and finesse.
Their vineyard work is meticulous: no herbicides, organic treatments, biodynamic practices, and cover cropping to enhance soil vitality. In the cellar, RaphaĂ«l and Vincent are committed to natural fermentations, barrel aging, and minimal interventionâproducing Champagnes of incredible clarity, structure, and character.
BĂ©rĂȘcheâs Brut RĂ©serve captures their philosophy perfectly: a wine that expresses place, tradition, and the thoughtful evolution of Champagne in the hands of growers.
