2019 Bastide de la Ciselette Bandol Rouge, Provence, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

80% Mourvùdre and 20% Grenache. Bastide de la Ciselette’s 37 acres of vine are all estate-owned, but this is sourced from the few acres of 60-year-old vines that immediately surround the estate. Farmed with organic and biodynamic principles. Skin contact for three weeks before light pressing. Aged in large foudres for 18 months. Displays an intense garnet core with ruby tints leading out to the rim. It’s opaque and deeply concentrated, with thick, slow-moving tears. On the nose, the wine reveals an impressive rush of elegant and dark fruit: currant, black cherry liqueur, candied blackberry, black plum, huckleberry, and then Rhîne-like notes of pepper, olive tapenade, and garrigue follow. A wonderful array of purple flowers, licorice, subtle baking spice, and mocha also reveal themselves.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

La Bastide de la Ciselette, seated on a hill in the heart of the Bandol appellation, dominates its vineyard. It is with the Vintage 2010 that the adventure began and that Robert De Salvo, winemaker harvesting, realized his dream of child. La Bastide de la Ciselette operates 15 hectares with an essential production of Bandol and a smaller volume of Vin de Pays du Var. The Bandol Rosé represents the majority production. The Red Bandol, produced in small quantities and only in the best years, is the result of a careful selection of parcels and a refined choice of grapes to offer a complex, elegant, fruity and silky wine.
